Overcoming fear will be necessary on a journey towards success. Fear is
an acronym for False Evidence Appearing Real. That is
something we need to understand. That fear, negativity and anxiety are often
borne out of irrational responses that present a false picture of the evidence
before us. As a general rule, we need to overcome these feelings and
negative thought patterns, master them and control them rationally, in order to
move forward positively every day. Some techniques work better for some than
others. Here are a few techniques for eliminating negatives
from your mind.

Remember to exercise patience when using these techniques as it does take time and discipline to retrain your mind. Rome wasn’t built in a day, but it was built over time. The first technique is to “label it” and then “cut it off.” With this technique, the instant you realise that you are thinking a negative or anxious thought, you acknowledge it as something negative, unhelpful and inaccurate. Tell yourself exactly that, that this line of thinking is negative and unhelpful. Then, immediately you end that line of thinking. No need to argue with it, analyse it, or replay it. You simply cut it off completely. Some people find it useful to say “Cancel that line of thought.” A simple way of cutting it off is to insert a totally different thought into your mind. You could think of something positive such as a recent achievement, someone who is supportive of you, something you are looking forward to, or even a happy memory. Some people like to think of what someone they trust would say to them about whatever circumstance triggered the thought, such as a coach, romantic partner, or close friend. Imagining the kind of positive or affirming words they would bring to that situation can counter balance the original negativity.
The second technique is to counterbalance or counteract the negative with the exact opposite. Whatever the negative thought is, you overcome it by thinking the exact opposite thought. For example, if your first thought is “I’m never going to complete this project in time,” you should counteract it with, “I’m going to finish this project and make a great job of it.” Although this may seem overly simplistic, it is in fact very powerful. The human mind can think only one conscious thought at a time. At times you may feel that you’re thinking several thoughts all at once, however, what is actually happening is you’re very rapidly thinking one thought after another, after another, after another and so on. So, if you don’t address a negative thought with one of the techniques mentioned, that one negative thought very quickly becomes a series of negative thoughts, which then become a predominant thought and effects your beliefs, your language and your actions. Most people, when they have something that they don’t want to have happen to them, a fear, they think about it, worry about it, and focus on it. As they do so, they subconsciously give that fear power and very often, the very thing they have feared the most is the very thing they have caused to happen through their process of negativity. Thankfully, the techniques shared here can break the power of any such negativity, allowing you to enjoy a brighter, more positive future. These techniques have worked with countless numbers of people, they will work for you too. The more effort you put into implementing these techniques, then the quicker and more effective they will be.
